International students are required to attend an International Orientation, a vital step in starting your journey at ASMI. Prior to your start date, you will receive an email with details about the date, time, and location of the orientation, as outlined in your COE.
During this informative session, you’ll gain valuable insights into living in Australia, navigating the local area, and making the most of campus facilities. You’ll also learn about student support services, class timetables, invoices, and other essential course information.
This orientation is a wonderful opportunity to meet your teachers and connect with fellow students, helping you feel more at home in your new environment. Be sure to attend, as it will set you up for success in your studies!
As an international student in Australia, you have specific legal obligations that differ from those of your Australian peers. It’s essential to understand the conditions of your visa and follow these important steps:
Maintain Enrollment: Ensure you are enrolled in a registered course and meet satisfactory course progress and attendance requirements.
Adhere to Course Requirements: Your main course of study must match the details of your student visa, and you must demonstrate ongoing financial capacity.
Update Contact Information: Notify ASMI within seven days of any changes to your contact details, including your home address, mobile number, and email address.
Work Limitations: You may not work more than 48 hours per fortnight during the academic semester.
Health Insurance: Maintain health insurance coverage for the entirety of your stay in Australia.
For a comprehensive list of mandatory and discretionary visa conditions, please visit Department of Home Affairs.
Class attendance
Students must maintain a minimum of 80% of class attendance during the semester. If you are late to class you will be marked absent and your attendance will be affected. As a result of unsatisfactory attendance over a period of time your study visa may be revoked.
If you are sick, you must inform a staff member as soon as possible. You will need to provide a medical certificate as proof of your illness.
ASMI may defer or temporarily suspend a student’s enrollment under specific circumstances, including:
Compassionate or Compelling Circumstances, such as:
Students wishing to initiate a deferment, suspension, or cancellation of their enrollment should consult the Course Amendment Policy and Procedure for detailed guidance.
For further information regarding enrollment suspension or cancellation related to misbehavior, please refer to the misconduct section of the International Student Code of Conduct.
Please keep in mind that any changes to your enrollment status may impact your student visa.
International students who wish to lodge an external appeal or complaint regarding a decision made by ASMI, or who seek assistance in resolving a dispute with a registered provider, should first utilize ASMI’s internal dispute resolution process.
If you are not satisfied with the outcome of this process, you can contact the Overseas Student Ombudsman or access dispute resolution services through local courts, which offer free and independent support.
Please note that your enrollment will be maintained while you engage in either the internal or external complaints and appeals process.
For more detailed information, please refer to the Complaints and Appeals Policy and Procedure.
